Waco -> Nashville

After spending four years in Waco, Texas for school I have since moved to Nashville, TN. I am working for an amazing photographer (Eric Ryan Anderson) and also doing my own photography. I am super excited about this new chapter of life and am going to do my best to learn a lot and make good work. Changes aren't always easy and seamless but Nashville has been so welcoming and I've already made some friends.

Spring Break

in

    Over spring break I had the opportunity to go to Colorado with some friends, new and old.  I know I can speak for all of us when I say we had an amazing time.  It was my first time being in Colorado and it was awesome.  After telling someone I went to Colorado for break, the first question usually is if I went skiing. . . due to my knees I was only able to go snowboarding for one day and it was a blast!  My friend Ben Cork who can shred wanted me to get some cool pictures so that's exactly what we did.

    On the second to last day, the whole group took a hike to Hanging Lake. Hanging Lake is at an elevation of about 7,100 feet located in Glenwood canyon about 7 miles from Glenwood Springs.  I'm so glad that everyone was up for the challenge because it definitely was a challenge due to all of the snow and ice there was on the trail but in the end it was well worth it.  Pictured to the right is my friend Aaron in front of the waterfall at Hanging Lake.  Once we reached the top, we took in the view, took some pictures and ate our packed lunches.  It was nice to relax after a difficult way up and we definitely needed the rest to rejuvenate for the way down on the treacherous ice.  

    All in all, Spring Break 2k15 was a blast and I wouldn't have changed it for the world.  I can't wait to see what next years break will hold.  Maybe a road trip to San Diego?! Who knows.

I've been following Justin for several years and he has definitely been one of the most consistent as far as creativity. I've had the pleasure of hanging out with Justin and he is one of the most genuine guys you will meet. More than that, he constantly amazes me with his colors and tones in his unique style. He was voted 1 of the best Instagrammers in San Diego by Thrillist which is pretty awesome! You can also check out this feature that the awesome app Mextures did with Justin.

  • kdkuiper (Kyle Kuiper)

This guy is amazing. Kyle was also voted 1 of the best Instagrammers in San Diego by Thrillist. Kyle recently went on a trip to Finland and got some amazing shots like the one to the right. He is very talented in capturing beautiful moments in beautiful color. If I'm scrolling quickly through my feed I can tell if I just passed one of Kyle's pictures because of the richness of the picture. I often get mesmerized by his photos and then wander on over to his feed to get more.

I don't follow Kyle for his photos as much as I follow him for his constant positive outlook on life. As well as his amazing doodles. His motto "Work Hard. Trust God. Enjoy life." truly describes this guy in 6 short words. If you didn't catch lasts weeks blog post, I posted this little glimpse of an interview on Kyle. I have had the opportunity to meet Kyle and he is as authentic as that interview describes him as. God has blessed this man immensely.

I've only recently started following Colby but I have been throughly impressed with his feed. I really enjoy seeing all of his adventures around the US and around the world. His photos draw you in. I find myself fooled into thinking I'm with him on some of these adventures. He really has a gift. Follow him and join me in my continuous jealous of all his awesome adventures he takes.

If you've read any of my posts on this blog, you know that Austin is the mann. Literally though, he's the man. He was recently featured on Apple.com for a panorama he took in Iceland on his iPhone. You can view the behind the scenes of that shot on his blog, here. Austin has been my photography mentor since I was first introduced to him by my brother. He is a true role model to me and I've enjoyed seeing all of the projects he's involved with.

Marfa

Because San Diego is 1,340 miles away from Waco, I was unable to go home for fall break. What I was able to do was go to Marfa, TX with 14 other members of my church. I had no idea what I was getting myself into. We left at 5:30 on Thursday evening to head to Marfa and a short 7 hours later, arrived at our destination, the middle of nowhere. After setting up camp, I laid down and stared at the stars for probably a good thirty minutes before my body said it was time for bed.

The next day was full of exploring what Marfa had to offer us, which wasn't much, but we made the most out of it. We went to a few art galleries that held work from artist such as Andy Warhols last supper. We even went to Marfa's own radio station and got a quick tour. The main thing that we did on Friday evening was travel up to the McDonald observatory in the Davis Mountains. The only lights that the observatory offered up there were red and they helped you see where you were walking and they were all pointed down so that the direct light wouldn't ruin your adjusted vision. It is said that it takes about 45 minutes of not looking at bright screens or other sources of light for your eyes to adjust. This allowed us to see stars and galaxies that you wouldn't normally see. It was absolutely beautiful. 

Saturday was the big day. I woke up to a beautiful sunrise, put on my hiking boots and sun hat and headed back to the Davis mountains to go on a hike. This was definitely the best part of the trip. We hiked about 10 miles to the top of Mt. Livermore (8,500 ft.)! Although the hike was tough and treacherous at parts, it was such a beautiful day. From my experience of Texas, I've only known flat land so this looked nothing like Texas to me.  

Sunday, we were greeted by another amazing sunrise (pictured to the left) as we got back on the road to head home. In the end, 14 hours of driving was worth the trip to Marfa for fall break.
